We make round cats.
Doomaine started with one question that wouldn't go away: why is the maneki-neko — the luckiest cat in the world — always made of cold ceramic? It sits on a shelf. It waves at nobody. You can't hug it.
So we made a soft one. Then we made nine.
Every Doomaine cat holds up two navy banners reading 大入 — ōiri — the sign hung backstage in Japan when every last seat in the house is sold. It's the wish we liked best. Not get rich. Not good luck. Just: may your place be full. Full shop, full inbox, full table, full house.
Each cat is named after a Japanese sweet, because that's honestly what they look like. Daifuku is white mochi with a dark centre. Goma is black sesame all the way through. Kuromitsu is dark sugar syrup and knows it. We didn't set out to build a dessert menu. It happened anyway, and we've stopped fighting it.
They're built round on purpose — weighted low so they sit up straight, and soft enough that people who bought one "for the desk" report it has migrated to the bed. We consider this a feature.
Nine cats so far. More coats coming. They're all waiting for a full house.
